Rover was founded in Reno in 2020. Today a small team of veterinarians and support staff cares for families across Reno and Sparks, answering the phone and walking every family through the process.

Christopher C. Clarkston, DVM
Dr. Chris was born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas. He earned both his undergraduate degree and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, then made his way west to Reno in 2022.
He has spent years working with nonprofit animal organizations across Nevada and California. That work gave him a real respect for the bond between families and their pets, and for how much an unhurried goodbye at home can mean.
Outside of work, Dr. Chris is usually with his fur kids, Lily and Gizmo, or out on a trail around Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada. He also performs with music ensembles around Reno.
Skylar Koll, DVM
Dr. Skye grew up in the Northeast and is a proud UCONN Husky who became a Wildcat at Kansas State's veterinary program. She set out to focus on surgery, then changed course partway through school when she saw the difference she could make for pets who did not yet have homes.
Shelter medicine pulled her toward Nevada, and Lake Tahoe, the Sierras, and the local Humane Society kept her here. During the COVID years she saw how hard it had become for families to get veterinary care, especially for a peaceful goodbye, and how much easier that moment is in a familiar home. She joined Rover in 2022 and has walked families through it ever since.
When she is not working, Dr. Skye helps at vaccine clinics around Reno, volunteers with local charities, and gets out to hike and snowboard around Tahoe. She also bakes, and spends her time with her fur-baby, Crowley.
Samantha Sligar
Samantha was born and raised in Washoe Valley, Nevada, where her lifelong passion for animals began through 4-H and dog shows. She earned her Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Truckee Meadows Community College in 2010, with experience in private practice, shelter medicine, and a veterinary dental specialty practice.
A military spouse since 2019, she has kept growing her skills in Tennessee and Missouri, but Nevada will always be home. Outside of work she stays involved with local shelters and enjoys hiking with her dogs.
Joshua Matzke
Josh is an experienced operations leader with a passion for building business processes and team environments that run smoothly. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Business Management and spent recent years in the hospitality industry.
In his free time, Josh enjoys the outdoors with his wife and children, and adventures in places without cell service.
Founded in Reno by Dr. Katie Matzke.
Dr. Katie was a shelter veterinarian with Nevada Humane Society from 2013 to 2023. She founded Rover Veterinary Care in Reno in 2020 after seeing firsthand the community's need for in-home euthanasia. In 2023 she moved her family back to her hometown of Jupiter, Florida, and expanded Rover there, while the Reno team carries the practice she started.
